How To Preserve Your Carved Pumpkins
Have you carved an amazing Halloween pumpkin only to find it wilted and moldy the next day? Or do you wait until the day before Halloween to carve your pumpkins? Well wait no more! Learn how you can preserve your carved pumpkin and enjoy it all season long.
Things You Will Need
- Carved Pumpkin
- Bleach
- Water
- Bucket
If you don’t have a bucket big enough for your pumpkin, don’t worry! Grab a garbage bag and your pumpkin and head to the bath tub! Follow the next steps. Once your mixture is in the bag, tie it off!
Step 1
Once you have your bucket ready, place your carved pumpkin gently inside.
Now, pour 2/3 cup bleach into the bucket and fill with enough water to submerge the pumpkin. Place the lid in there too!
Make sure your bucket is out of the way because you want your pumpkin to sit in the bleach water for 24 hours! During this time the pumpkin will disinfect itself and the water it soaks up will aid in the prevention of mold (just remember, it can’t keep it off forever, it’s just going to hinder the growth and extend the life of your pumpkin).
After 24 hours, pull your pumpkin out of the water and pour out any excess that might be sitting inside.
*If you’re using a garbage bag instead of a bucket, simply untie the bag to open and let the water drain out into the tub.
Step 2
Once your pumpkin is out of the water, set it out to dry.
Once your pumpkin is dry, it is ready to grace the scariest of haunted houses!
That’s all there is to it! This was super easy, wasn’t it?!
Now your pumpkin will be set to party on Halloween night!
